Pieminister turns 20

Dec 14 2023
20 years, 55 million pies, 15,000 custom reusable pie tins and a 9,000-mile long sheet of pastry later, and Bristol’s piemaking business is still going strong.
That’s very much down to you, esteemed pie lover.  Thank you…
Here’s a snippet of the past 20 years in 60 seconds…

December 2003, we opened a little bakery and pie shop in a former printers on Stokes Croft, Bristol.  We did all the renovations ourselves, kitting out the bakery with an assortment of second-hand industrial equipment (most of which we weren’t entirely sure how to use…!)

On our first day, we sold 10 pies (most to Tristan’s mum) but it wasn’t long before word spread and a queue formed at lunchtimes, especially every ‘Pieday Friday’.  A few months later, we were given a much coveted stall at London’s Borough Market, then we wowed the crowds at Glastonbury, putting Pieminister and the now-legendary Mothership feast firmly on the food map.

Fast forward to now; the pies are still made in Bristol, the range includes a deforestation-free jackfruit ‘steak’ pie (that shocked the pie world, beating 100’s of meat pies to be crowned Supreme Champ at the British Pie Awards) and we became one of the first UK restaurant businesses to become a B Corp. And we still share a desk at 24 Stokes Croft.

Our journey so far has been a pie-fuelled roller coaster ride and you can read all about it in Live & Eat Pie! our new cookbook,  filled to the brim with 80 amazing new pie recipes, all created with sustainability in mind.
